Don't sleep. We might've missed the 15th by a few days but we had to do somethin' for February on behalf of L, Pinky and Black History Month and Zed made it happen for us this time around.

You should recognize at least a couple names from the funeral program. Tiffany Phinazee, L's cousin, is someone we've briefly spoke to in the past. And Tyesh Harris stayed in contact with L long after she helped get him in the door at Columbia:

Also, you can see that Psalm 23 was read, which is what O.C. named his Buckwild produced tribute song to Big L on his Bon Appetit LP:

Thanks for postin' man.

This one is kind of a big deal but people mostly just decide to view it and not say shit I guess. If you guys want more exclusives there needs to be a little give and take as far as feedback goes. This is one of those things that people have been askin' about for years, goin' on almost decades now and now that it's finally here, nobody is payin' attention. I know the forums are slow but the people that are here should be sayin' somethin' if they enjoy what we're doin'.

Comments? Thoughts? Questions?

It's a good look and I appreciate. I'm still trying to figure out a few thing about the funeral, not really use to this.
''Selection'' and ''solo'' are people singing? If so do we know what song?

Damn. Seeing all of this actually makes me kind of sad.

I also think it's crazy how popular he was in the New York area, and not many people outside of that (from my experience) know nothing of L. Like on the 15th, I asked the radio stations around my area to play some Big L, and the person taking the calls said, "Who's Big L? Is he a local guy?"

Definitely giving my props to all the people here who get the exclusive stuff. Y'all holdin' it down. This place is amazing.
Let's get Big L's article on Wikipedia to become featured! Then it can be on the Main Page and spread the word of Big L!

Thanks brother. Selection, it looks like the choir is singing a selection from The Bible, most likely a hymn that the family had chosen beforehand. Only way to know what it was would be to ask someone who was there who remembers. I don't think solo is a song, more like a speaking piece from his cousin. Good questions.

Yeah it is sad.

That's true but on the other hand I've met people from all over (online and in person) who do know L and I remember livin' in NY and bein' around people who didn't know of L. He has received a lot of posthumous and internet fame though, that's for sure. And you just talked to one clueless guy but you're right, more people should be aware. Especially people who work in the music industry in some form.

For sure man, thanks. Glad to hear it.

Discussion that is makin' me think, fans speakin' their minds. This is what I'm talkin' about right here.

In the end of that OC tribute track Big Sleep just posted, Psalm 23, OC mentions the funtime he and L had while back in Germany. As I'm German, I'm kinda interested what exactly they did in Germany, since I've never read sth about it. Would be happy about an answer.

Peace

Thanks for putting this up.

I was just thinking there hasn't been any new Big L stuff in a while but I knew you guys must have been working on something nice.

This is important hip hop history, a big part of the ending of an era.

This is the church on Google Street View if anyone is interested:

I remember I looked at The Tramps on Street View a few months ago and it seems like an empty building now. Is it still around or when did it close? I am guessing it closed a while ago.

Here is where it is suppose to be:

Thank you Sleep. There is also a solo from Sis. Inetha Rock, I thought she was a singer.

Hell yeah.

In Casualties of a Rap Game By Dave Ovalle :

''Police escorted the family to the George Washington Bridge for the burial, which was attended by a throng of hip-hop stars, including Fat Joe, Mase and Cam'ron. Phone calls of condolences came from as far away as Brazil. Those calls keep coming today.''

And The Life and Rhymes of Lamont Coleman By Erik Thomsen :

''At L’s funeral at the George Washington Bridge dozens of hip-hop’s finest attended, members of DITC, and other stars such as Cam’ron and Ma$e were eager to pay respects to their long time friend. The calls would come in that night, offering condolence, from across the world. It appears that Big L was more than just Harlem’s Finest.''

I read somewhere not reliable that Jay-Z was there too.
I guess police escorted the family cause of the crowd but, if Big Lee was there he has to be escorted too, because of jail conditions?

In '97 L was on the Jewelz tour with O.C., they were just hangin' out and performing. I'll try to find specific quotes from O.C. but I can't remember him saying anything in particular about Germany. Peace.

Yeah, you're right about that, she could be. Don't know one way or another but it's definitely either a song, words from that person or a combination of both. Not that that helps really but it is interesting.

I've heard that too, don't know if Jay made it out, wouldn't surprise me either way. Think he would've mentioned it or we would've heard about it by now but maybe not.

I forget the details of how that exactly went down at the moment but I do believe at least a couple locked up members of L's family were allowed temporary monitored leave of their facilities in order to attend, which, if I remember correctly, included Lee.

L's mom Pinky also talked about how she didn't realize how famous her son was until his funeral, when the streets were blocked off due to the floods of people. The crowd was tremendous from all accounts.

I can't believe anyone has that DJ 3rd Rail mix tape and it is online. Thanks for the link.

Yeah the Tramps looks like it has been gone for a while, which is sad but since real New York rap hasn't been big since the very late 90s and very early 2000s it's not surprising.

According to this link Tramps closed in 2001:

http://chrisjur.word...s-of-the-1990s/

"Tramps (New York, NY) – This rock haven closed its doors in 2001 and became Centro-Fly. Tramps was a legendary rock venue and, consequently, anyone who ever went there despised the techno-heavy Centro-Fly (even though it did attract the world’s greatest DJs, including Fatboy Slim and Paul Okenfold). As the ultimate insult, it is now Duvet, the Sex-in-the-City-ish ultra-trendy bar/restaurant where you sit (or lay) on beds while you eat and drink. Yes, beds."

Says it was mostly a rock venue but I am guessing it is talking about the same Tramps.

Who is Kenneth Phinazee?

For sure. Yeah, that sounds about right, I knew it had been about a decade now. Some of the last acts to rock it were L, D.I.T.C., Brand Nubian, Lord Finesse and Eminem. You'd have to ask Soobax about Ken, he knows / remembers more than me about the lineage and Phinazee family tree.

It says "Bro." so possibly his half uncle or something?

I don't mean to sound greedy but do you have any word on any new Big L releases? Like an unheard freestyle. Or do you normally find out about them only a few days before they are put out?
