Awesome! I'm so interested in Big L's high school years, so it's nice to know that his friends from back then are still showing support and sharing their knowledge. Great quality pic. I think this is the earliest documented image of Big L throwing up the L sign.

Big L is seen throwing up the Lenox Avenue sign in that camcorder footage from the Street Struck trailer, but I think this is the first photographed appearence of the famous Big L sign (somewhat cut off from the frame, but still).

I can't believe that he was dropping freestyles with Finesse and recording full songs with Showbiz while he was still in high school. That's incredible.

I've actually seen this one before (though maybe not in this quality) but thanks for throwin' it up Mike, it's cool that Homicide approves.

The 'L' no longer stood for loser after he did that. R.I.P.

I've always thought the same thing. People used to make that symbol to call somebody 'loser', similar to how the middle finger means 'fuck you'. But Big L changed the trend and made it fly. He was so smooth and confident that he could've done anything and made it seem cool.

Wow he looks so young in that picture, props to Mike!

And this may be off topic but I just found out yesterday that one of my close cousins went the same high school as Big L(Julia Richmond). She went there from 1991-1995; I asked her if she knew or remembered anyone by the name of Lamont Coleman but she said that it only sounded familiar to her.

Just thought that was pretty cool.

You should ask her to look in the senior section of her 1991 - 1992 (freshman) yearbook, because that would be the only year they were both there at the same time.

I'll ask her if she has it, maybe I'll ask her for an interview, what do you guys think?

I think that's a fantastic idea. Even if she doesn't remember Big L she can still provide a lot of info about Julia Richmond High circa '91-'92, so we'd at least get a better idea of what Big L's school days were like. And if she can provide faculty names (especially English/grammar teachers) then that could lead to future interviews.

Yeah, sounds good to me. Even if she doesn't have a yearbook from that year if she can remember anything about the school or people in it during her first year (L's parting year), that could be of major help as far as getting us in contact with someone (perhaps a teacher or another student) who knows more than she does about L and his high school years.

Can you imagine if Big L's former grammar or creative writing teacher dug up an old poem or paper he wrote? I think about stuff like that all the time. How many Big L gems are just collecting dust somewhere?

Thanks for this Mike!! And Props to DJ HOMICIDE!

About your cousin who went there the same time as he did, ask if she remembers the name Big L. Lamont Coleman might not ring any bell, cause i'd imagine that everybody was calling him L!

Or Show her a picture of L! Than you'll be sure if she knows anything about him.
